Working with us
The Institute of IT Training is the world's first professional body for IT training professionals. It was established in 1995 and since then has grown on an annual basis where it is now firmly established as the leading authority throughout the UK and Europe on IT training and development.
The Institute of IT Training exists to continuously raise standards of professionalism within the training industry. Through an unrivalled range of membership, certification, accreditation, events and bespoke consultancy services, the Institute focuses on enhancing and recognising the skills and professional status of individuals and organisations engaged in training activities, and assessing the quality of training services.
Professional Membership
Prove your competence
Membership of the Institute is competency based, according to three levels of membership grade. The appropriate membership level is determined by proving competence in clearly defined training skills areas and by providing evidence of specific technical expertise. Membership therefore recognises and gives credence to the professionalism of individuals.
Maintain your training skills proficiency
On initial evidencing of competency, members are enrolled in the Continuous Professional Development (CPD) scheme to keep vital skills current - and not just your skills in IT. The CPD system is designed to provide for members' systematic maintenance, improvement and broadening of technical, professional, commercial and personal skills on an ongoing basis.
Grow your skills
The Institute publishes standards that encompass all aspects of IT training, development and delivery, including best practice templates and guidelines for training professionals. You will also receive a range of discounts on professional training courses, conferences, exhibitions, books and professional liability and indemnity insurance.
Grow your career
Members also benefit from individual career and certification advice. They can also consult training salary and other research conducted by the IITT.
Learn from shared experiences
Membership offers opportunities to network with other training professionals at our many informative seminars and regional group meetings, as well as special members-only meetings. These networking events are supported by interactive members-only portals for the trainer, freelance trainer, training manager and training provider.
Certification for Individuals
Achieve professional recognition
As a pre-requisite to membership, the Institute seeks validation of competencies from trainers, either gained directly through its own certifications or other evidence which can be mapped to a competency framework that has been developed, tested and proven over many years. Certification and other membership validation is rigorous and based on both achieving and measuring results.
Develop and certify specific competencies
As the IT training industry's awarding body, the Institute is instrumental in developing standards, then assessing and recognising competency in specific, defined skills areas. The Institute's certifications resulting from the Trainer Assessment Programme (TAP) provides a unique, measurable and objective methodology which assesses a trainer's performance and effectiveness across a range of skills. The programme was pioneered by the Institute and won the Queen's Award for Enterprise in the Innovation category in 2005. The TAP methodology is wholly owned by The Training Foundation.
Accreditation & Benchmarking for organisations
Evaluate and enhance your business processes
As part of the Institute's vital role in establishing, managing and raising standards in IT training, we assess and endorse the processes and inherent abilities of internal training functions and external training providers through a range of targeted accreditation programmes:
- External Training Provider Accreditation is for IT training companies that provide training to clients.
- External Training Provider Accreditation - Personally Funded Training is for IT training companies that provide training to individuals who fund their own training.
- External Service Provider Accreditation is for companies that develop and supply training related products and services (e.g. courseware or resource contractual trainers/services).
- Internal Training Department Accreditation is for companies that develop and supply training to their own staff.
- Technical Support Centre Accreditation is for third party technical support centres and technical support centres within corporates.
- Learning Centre Accreditation is for Open or Distance Learning Centre venues, where the individual learner and the learning vehicle come together - the place where the learner can be guided, self educated and (possibly) tested.
- Learning Facilities Accreditation is for venues offering learning facilities.
- E-GIF Accreditation is for internal departments in public sector organisations, and companies that supply services or outsourced business processes to public sector organisations. This programme is operated in conjunction with the Institute's parent organisation NCC.
