Institute Certificates
Qualifications are important to all professions. Within the IT training industry, the Institute of IT Training has been driving and raising standards in training since 1995.
As a pre-requisite to membership, the Institute seeks validation of competencies from training professionals either through its own professional certification (Institute Certified Training Practitioner) or other Qualification & Credit Framework-recognised qualifications which are at least a Level 3 qualification in Learning & Development as published on the Qualifications Curriculum Authority's Database of Accredited Qualifications (see www.accreditedqualifications.org.uk).
As the IT training industry's standards awarding body, the Institute is instrumental in developing and maintaining standards and assessing and recognising competency in specific, defined skills areas.
The Institute's professional certification will provide you with greater job recognition, and are flexible and tailored to the requirements of the industry. Institute certification is recognised throughout the UK and Europe and is a requirement for the majority of the IT training job recruitment agencies and employers.
Institute Certified Training Practitioner Certificate
You can achieve the IITT's certificate by having a live assessment under our new TPMA service (Trainer Performance Monitoring & Assessment) - full details can be found under Trainer Performance Monitoring & Assessment on the main page of this website.
The IITT's new Competency Framework underpins the measurement criteria used by the TPMA process and encapsulates industry and educational best practice standards. This framework fully includes the assessment criteria for the PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector) award (see below).
Assessment is undertaken by reviewing the trainer's delivery, behaviours, effective performance and demonstrable knowledge against this framework.
The core Competency Measures are as follows:
1. Preparation for the learning event
2. Management of the learning environment
3. Understanding and application of appropriate communication techniques
4. Understanding and application of appropriate facilitation techniques
5. Demonstration of effective questioning and listening techniques
6. Establishment and maintenance of personal credibility
7. Understanding and demonstration of an appropriate range of instructional methods
8. Management of practical sessions
9. Assessment of learner development
10. Demonstration and evidence of personal CPD (Continuing Professional Development)
Once you have achieved a successful Live Assessment, and therefore the IITT's Institute Certified Training Practioner Certificate, you may further achieve the national PTLLS Award (Level 4 on the Qualifications & Credit Framework) by providing the Assessor/Verifier with a portfolio of evidence, which after verification will provide you with the national PTLLS Award awarded by OCR (see below for further details).
Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector Awards, Certificates & Diploma
The Sector Skills Council for Learning and Development (LLUK) has released a series of qualifications that empower individuals within or starting in the training sector to achieve appropriate National qualifications at the required level.
The qualifications are:
- Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) (available at Levels 3 & 4)
- Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (CTLLS)(available at Levels 3 & 4)
- Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector (DTLLS)Level 5
These qualifications have been designed to develop and accredit the breadth of knowledge and skills required by teachers, trainers and tutors (hereafter referred to as trainers) to develop and manage learning programmes and undertake a high level of responsibility in managing the learning process.
They aim to develop candidates' skills and knowledge and to recognise their achievements in a practical way that is relevant to their work context and reflects the professional values of trainers in the lifelong learning environment. It is anticipated that much of the practical evidence required to meet the assessment requirements of the qualification will be naturally occurring.
The qualifications have been designed to be context-free and, therefore, meet the needs of trainers working across all subject/vocational areas.
The Sector Skills Council responsible for the implementation of this is Lifelong Learning UK. The OCR suite of Lifelong Learning qualifications have been accepted by QCA for inclusion in the Qualifications & Credit Framework (QCF) and have been fully endorsed by SVUK for use as part of the achievement of professional status with the Institute for Learning.
Candidates can claim certificates for the OCR suite of Lifelong Learning qualifications in a number of ways:
- As a full qualification (Award, Certificate or Diploma)
- For an individual unit
Each unit of these qualifications is part of the Qualifications & Credit Framework, which means that a candidate can carry a unit from one qualification to another, provided it is the same level and title. For example, a candidate completing the Level 3 Award in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector (PTLLS) can then use this as part of the Certificate (CTLLS) qualification. These qualifications will be portable across Europe in the near future.
